Behind the Policy Summit: Sen. Franken and Mike Mills of R.E.M.
"Behind the Policy Summit" series, we're very excited to introduce not one, but two speakers with whom you're probably already familiar. But let's talk about 'em anyway!
The Senate's newest member, Al Franken(D-MN) is on board for the Future of Music Policy Summit (Oct. 4-6, Georgetown University, Washington, DC). Senator Franken will deliver a keynote about one of our favorite topics, net neutrality. We've seen the Senator in action in some of his earlier committee hearings (he actually brought up net neutrality during Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor's confirmation process), and we're very much looking forward to his comments about preserving the open internet.
Net neutrality is has been one of FMC's key issues since we kicked off our Rock the Net campaign back in 2007. We believe in net neutrality because it lets independent artists and labels compete on an equal technological playing field with the biggest companies. Our support of net neutrality reflects our ongoing commitment to a legitimate digital music marketplace where artists have access and fans can find the music they want.
Now, on to our next sensational Policy Summit speaker.
We're psyched to announce that legendary R.E.M. bassist and songwriter Mike Mills will also be joining us. Better yet, he's gonna be interviewing none other than Senator Al Franken! This is one can't-miss Q&A. If we may be so bold, where else will you see a prominent policymaker interviewed by a fabulous rock star?
Reserve your spot now for what's shaping up to be the music-tech-policy summit of the year. As always a limited number of musician scholarships are available; head here to apply!
We'd love to see you at the event, but if you absolutely, positively can't make it to DC, you can always watch the live webcast. Head here to sign up -- it's free!
