Getting There
The 2011 Policy Summit will take place in the Lohrfink Auditorium in the Rafik B. Hariri building at Georgetown University.
The Georgetown campus is mostly closed to vehicles and signage is not the best. Regardless of what method you use to get to campus, you will need to refer to the campus map (the Hariri building is # 80) to find your way around. We strongly suggest you print a copy. You may also find this map of the Leavey Center building helpful. To get your bearings on the surrounding area, you can plug the address “37th St NW & O St NW, Washington DC 20007” into your favorite map software. That’s the address of Georgetown’s main gates. The GPS coordinates of the Hariri building are 38.90917, -77.07548 (labeled the Georgetown Business Center on Google Maps).

The Washington, DC, area features several major international airports, all with a variety of ground transportation options to get you from the airport to Georgetown and the surrounding area. The closest and most convenient airport is Reagan (DCA). It is on the Blue line of DC’s subway system and a short cab ride to the Georgetown campus. The next convenient airport is Dulles (IAD), with regular bus service to the Rosslyn and West Falls Church Metro stations. BWI airport is 1 to 1.5 hours by car from DC and getting from the airport to Georgetown requires numerous transfers.
Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA)
Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)
Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI)
While there is no Metro train stop (DC’s subway system) in the Georgetown neighborhood, there are a number of other public transportation options to get you to campus.
- Metro bus: DC’s bus system is reliable and extensive (see a full system map). A full run-down of the system can be found at the WMATA website and they include a great trip planner feature on the main page. The G2 line runs straight to the front gates of campus, and the D6 line runs to the back of campus along Reservoir Road. The 31-32-36 lines run from downtown up along Wisconsin Avenue; a short walk west from Wisconsin and O Streets will lead to you the front gates of campus. Regular trips are $1.70 and express trips are $3.65.
- Circulator bus: The Georgetown-Union Station line of the Circulator system offers another means of getting from downtown up to Georgetown’s campus. The line runs along Wisconsin Avenue and much like with the 30s Metro bus line, will get you within a short walk of campus. Circulator fares are always $1.00.
- Metro train: See the WMATA website for full system details, but the closest Metro stops to campus are Rosslyn, VA, Foggy Bottom and Dupont. From these stops, any combination of buses, taxis, or walking can get you to campus. Each Metro ride is between $1.60 and $5.00, depending on distance and time traveled.
- Shuttle: Georgetown also provides a free university shuttle service for students, which is available to Conference attendees as well. The shuttle has stops at the Rosslyn and Dupont Metros.
- Taxis: DC’s taxis run on a meter system, meaning the cost of the trip will vary depending on distance traveled.
For those of your arriving in DC by train, the circulator bus mentioned above runs between Georgetown and Union Station.
The Georgetown neighborhood is a beautiful and historic part of the city. Walking on foot is the best way to explore both Georgetown and all of Washington, DC, but be aware that the streets surrounding campus are hilly and the sidewalks made largely of cobblestones.
The closest on-campus parking is in the garage under the Leavey Center, next door to the Hariri building. If you are staying at the Georgetown University Hotel and Conference Center in the Leavey Center, this is definitely where you should park. Parking costs $25/day and both cash and credit cards are accepted. Driving directions from Reagan, Dulles, and BWI airports are here, or use the address 3801 Reservoir Rd NW, Washington DC 20007 and then follow signs for Leavey Center Visitor Parking. Once you get to the Leavey center, use this map to find your way through the Leavey Center building to the Hariri building.
The second on-campus parking option is the Southwest garage, located under the O’Donovan Dining Hall (campus map building 43). Driving directions are here, or use the address 3611 Canal Rd NW, Washington DC 20007. Parking at the Southwest garage costs $15/day or $3/hour and is CASH ONLY. NOTE: It is not usually possible to drive through campus from one parking lot to the other as there are numerous unattended card-controlled security gates that will likely be closed.
Off-campus street parking: Most streets require a Zone 2 residential permit issued by the District of Columbia for parking for longer than two hours. A limited number of metered spaces are available on Reservoir Road, 37th Street and Prospect Street.
We recommend using the map linked below for directions and to get your bearings.
