It would be an understatement to say FMC’s Policy Summit always has an uber-talented bunch of panelists and attendees. In recognition of that, we wanted to highlight some of the gigs our Summit participants will be playing. If you’re coming in early or leaving late, check ‘em out.

Ripley’s special blend of border-busting booty bounce has stormed dancefloors from Boston to Brooklyn to Bow to Brussels to Belgrade to Berlin to Brisbane — and that’s just the Bs. All kinds all together get down and get up when Ripley brings the global ruckus. When not slinging basslines and casting breakbeats live or for her many mixes, Ripley tugs at the threads of colonial power underlying copyright law, technology and music for her PhD at UC Berkeley Law School. Some of her thoughts (and most of her mixes) can be found at http://djripley.blogspot.com.
bent is just a small-town girl, who took that midnight train and ended up the district after layovers in new orleans, rostock, baltimore, bluefields, tucson, and jerusalem. one fifth of the dj collective/girl group/assassin squad known as Anthology of Booty, her favorite audience is her one-year-old son who seems to enjoy Augustus Pablo above all else. in addition to diasporas, she can be found spinning at the monthly backdoor party with the Anthology (anthologyofbooty.com) and often at Maracuyeah events (maracuyeah.com).
Tuesday, October 4
Monika Herzig Trio will be performing at Twins Jazz at 1344 U St. NW Washington, DC, (202) 234-0072. There will be two shows, 8 pm and 10pm show. For a sneak preview of her songs, check out www.monikaherzig.com. They have fantastic ethiopian cuisine and she’d love to celebrate the conclusion of two great days there with fellow Policy Summit attendants.
