Times Magazine Editor on ‘Creative Apocalypse’ Article
[2.] Do those complaining about this story have a legitimate point, even if it doesn’t rise to the level of a correctable mistake?
The most significant criticism of Steven’s story has come from the Future of Music Coalition, a musicians’ advocacy group. As Steven points out, FoM is an important organization that does good work. (It’s worth pointing out that Steven’s story was not solely about the music industry; it was about the creative class overall.) We take FoM’s concerns seriously, which is why, in addition to the broad response Steven wrote for our site, he posted a 2,000-word point-by-point response to FoM’s critique of his piece in the comment thread on their site (a post that our researchers thoroughly fact-checked as well). I think the debate that has played out between Steven and FoM since the story was published has largely been a good one that has shed more light on the subject.
