On June 20, 2013, the Office of the Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator for the United States (IPEC), released its 2013 Joint Strategic Plan for Intellectual Property Enforcement, which lays out the administration’s agenda for coordinating efforts to protect and encourage American intellectual property (IP) at home and abroad. The following statement can be attributed to Casey Rae, Interim Executive Director for Future of Music Coalition:
“Future of Music Coalition is glad to see that IPEC has again issued a Plan that is balanced and takes into account the current landscape intellectual property, especially copyright.
“Musicians and composers utilize their IP in many different ways, and our IP laws must take into account this diversity while respecting and protecting their rights. Victoria Espinel of IPEC should be commended for paying attention to the experiences of creators as well as other stakeholders in the broader IP conversation.
“We support IPEC’s goal of transparency in policymaking around IP as well as ongoing efforts to align stakeholders to work together to solve persistent issues around enforcement. We look forward to working with our associates in the music community to maintain open dialog around these important issues for creators.”
