Q&A With Listen Local First Co-Founder Chris Naoum

Chris Naoum is the co-founder of Listen Local First (LLF), a Washington DC music initiative that supports the local music community through facilitating partnerships with local businesses. He’s also the former policy counsel for FMC. We talked to Chris about the initiative and LLF’s newest project, the Mobile Music Venue, which will create a new platform to promote DC musicians at this year’s SXSW conference in Austin, Texas. read more

FMC Invades Austin!

It’s that time of year again! South By South West 2012 is around the corner and FMC is ready to rock it. If you’re in Austin at SXSW anytime from March 12-18, be sure to track us down!

We’ll be all over the music festival and some of the interactive festival of the Austin, TX event, with public talks, presentations and rock shows galore. Are you interested in making $50?

If you answered YES to both questions, we invite you to participate in a focus group on Wednesday, March 7 about artists and health insurance. The meeting will be 90 minutes long and held at a subway-accessible location in Manhattan.

Why Can't EMI Make Bank on Katy Perry?

A couple of weeks ago, NPR’s “Planet Money” broadcast an episode about Katy Perry’s recent success. In case you didn’t know, the pop star has locked down the Billboard charts with five different singles from her album Teenage Dream, selling over two million albums and 24 million songs on iTunes. Besides itemizing these accomplishments, “Planet Money” focused on EMI’s inability make more than eight million bucks from Perry’s popularity. read more
