Tim Quirk, the VP of Music Programming for Rhapsody, talks about the changing landscape of the music industry. He points to a shift in music culture and business away from the traditional model of physical media ownership, to a new subscription service model that expands access to a greater library of music in a more convenient way. Quirk touches on the traditional role of labels and suggests that they will have to innovate in significant ways in order to make use of new technologies and consumer demands. He also describes his experience as an artist, and the differences between releasing a record on a major label a decade ago, and releasing a new album online.
